Cosmetic surgery, a bad idea?
The disadvantages and dangers of cosmetic surgery
In recent years, there has been growing interest in cosmetic surgery. Many people, inspired by celebrities who never seem to age and have a “dream body”, are tempted to opt for getting back into shape through the easy way out: that of cosmetic surgery. But between dangers, complications, accidents and expensive prices... Is the path to cosmetic surgery as easy as we think? Let’s look at this subject together. Let's go !
The disadvantages of cosmetic surgery
If so many people decide to turn to cosmetic surgery, it is because it seems to offer the hope of finding what many of them have been looking for for many years: a perfectly structured body, with luscious shapes. , or in other words, a “dream body” composed of a strong chest, a rounded butt and a flat stomach.
By opting for cosmetic surgery, these people think they can obtain what they are looking for, forever. Because in fact, given the price of cosmetic surgery operations, one might think (and moreover, generally, we even think) that the effects of cosmetic surgery are eternal. And yet, this is far from being the case! Because if celebrities do not hesitate to show us their pretty results after having resorted to the scalpel, what they hesitate a little more to show is that they have to resort to repeated interventions to maintain and preserve these results. And yes, cosmetic surgery does not last a lifetime:
- A breast implant generally lasts 12 to 15 years before it hardens and requires an implant change.
- The Colombian facelift, which aims to give volume and shape to the buttocks and breasts, requires monthly maintenance. With regular maintenance, this generally only lasts a year.
- Liposuction, popular because of its ability to remove fat from areas such as the thighs, hips, or even the back, does not guarantee that fat will not accumulate again a few months later...
Why not directly opt for healthy fitness, based on a balanced diet and regular sporting activity, rather than wasting time with a treatment that will never be as effective as we would like? With cosmetic surgery, we should also note that it is a waste of money... because as we know, it is not free, and it is even very expensive!
We estimate that it is generally necessary to count between:
- 5500 and 9000 euros for breast implant placement,
- 5000 and 7000 euros for buttock implant placement,
- 2000 and 4000 euros for a buttock lift,
- 1000 and 4000 euros for liposuction of the buttocks…
The different risks of cosmetic surgery
Whatever the specialty of the operation, it is important to know that it carries risks. Every surgical procedure can be dangerous, and surgeons and their teams are required to take care to reduce risks and inform patients of any potential risks before any operation. Let's take a look at the different risks that can arise during or after an operation.
Anesthetic risk
Depending on the operation, the surgeon decides between local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Although local anesthesia is less dangerous than general anesthesia, it is still possible to have allergic reactions, which can cause skin rashes, or, in the worst case, death.
The hemorrhagic risk
We speak of hemorrhage when a blood vessel releases blood. When a hemorrhage occurs during an operation, the surgeon tries to control it by coagulating the vessels, because the operation can only be concluded once the flow of blood has stopped. In the worst cases, there could therefore also be a death.
The risk of infection
During or following the operation, microbial contamination may also occur despite the precautions of the team who took care of you. If you experience significant pain or fever after the operation, do not hesitate to alert the surgeon very quickly. The consequences of an infection can vary depending on the germ, the severity of the infection, and the type of intervention.
The risk of scarring
Not everyone has the same healing capacity. While some heal quickly and perfectly, other patients produce too much tissue and then experience hypertrophic scarring. These therefore take longer to flatten (around 18 months after the operation).
Risks linked to implanted products
The last risk concerns the various prostheses or injected substances which, due to their composition, can cause numerous complications in patients (allergies, infections, swelling, bleeding, cancers, etc.). For this risk, we have in particular the example of AIM-ALCL , a cancer which has to date only been observed in women wearing breast implants.
